Sing PA is the public-facing home for barbershop choruses in south-central Pennsylvania. Our mission is simple: to help more people discover barbershop, join a local chorus, and experience the joy of singing together.
Visitors who find us through radio, social media, or word-of-mouth can quickly connect with a nearby chorus, learn about the artform, and take their first step into harmony.
What Is Barbershop Harmony?
Barbershop harmony is a uniquely American a cappella style built on four voice parts—tenor, lead, baritone, and bass, sung together without instruments. When those voices lock in just right, they create a ringing “fifth voice” called an overtone that gives barbershop its signature sound. It’s fun, energizing, and surprisingly easy to try, even if you’ve never sung before.

The Joy of Barbershop Harmony
Barbershop harmony is a uniquely American a cappella tradition dating back to the late 1800s. Rooted in community singing and popular songs of the day, it blossomed into a style defined by four-part harmony: tenor, lead, baritone, and bass. When sung together, these parts create a ringing overtone — the signature sound that makes barbershop harmony so thrilling to hear and perform.
Over the years, barbershop has grown into a worldwide movement. The Barbershop Harmony Society, founded in 1938, now spans the United States and Canada with more than 600 chapters. What started as friends gathering to sing has become a global celebration of harmony, camaraderie, and fun.
Today, barbershop is not “just your grandpa’s music.” Modern choruses and quartets perform everything from traditional favorites to contemporary hits, making barbershop an art form for all ages
